Bicycle Theft
There were 113,206 recorded offences of theft or unauthorised taking of a pedal cycle in 2005/06. This represents a seven per cent increase from the previous year. However, the Halifax and General Insurance estimate that half a million bikes, with a value of more than £113m, are stolen every year in the UK.

More than half of the thefts take place directly outside the home and 14% of bikes are taken from inside the home. That would suggest that some very basic prevention precautions against theft would dramatically reduce the problem.
