Is to Create an Alliance to Fight Crime.

and the community at large. Childline, Samaritans and Victim
Support Contact Details.
Crimestoppers UK functions countrywide to help with crime
prevention, identify offenders and assist the police to solve
and reduce crime in the UK. This vital community service
enables any person with knowledge of criminal activity to
pass on details anonymously, without fear of exposure or
retribution. Childline, Samaritans and Victim
Support Contact Details.
The crimestoppers concept was born in New Mexico USA, where
it proved very successful in persuading the public to report
information about criminal activity by guaranteeing their
anonymity.
The idea was first adopted in the UK by a number of towns
and cities operating independently.
However, The Community Action Trust charity, had earlier
been formed by several businessmen presided over by Lord
Ashcroft, KCMG, to find ways to encourage the public to assist
the police, in solving serious crime. So The Crimestoppers
Scheme was selected by the charity as a proven solution and
businessmen donated £500,000 to start the project. Childline,

The Mission "Is to create
an alliance to fight crime. The objectives are:-
The promotion and encouragement of good citizenship and
greater public participation in the prevention and solution
of crime.
The advancement, promotion and preservation of public law
and order.
The advancement and promotion of efficient policing.
The furtherance and administration of justice."
The Metropolitan Police introduced the first crimestoppers
police scheme in 1988 and it has since spread to all the
police forces in the UK.
Giving Information On Crime By
calling you can pass on information about crime, anonymously.
Call 0800 555 111
On calling you will be connected to a highly trained and
experienced call operator, who will pass on any useful information
to the relevant authorities.
The operation's chief responsibility is, to ensure that
any information about crime reaches the police or other relevant
authority. Callers won’t be asked for their name, nor
to make a formal statement or to give evidence in court.
However detailed questions will be asked about the information
given. Most importantly, since their identity is not known,
they need not fear any reprisals.
If your information leads to an arrest and charge, you may
receive a cash reward, which is also paid in a way that continues
to protect your identity.
Contact by E-mail or Online The organization is not able
to accept information in any electronic format at the moment,
so don't email them as they cannot handle it and valuable
information may be lost.
The reason for this is that they are uncertain if contact
via e-mail, or online to pass on information may reveal your
identity. They refuse to compromise the anonymity of the
scheme. IT companies are now trying to develop ways of communicating
information securely online and details will be available
soon.
Contact by Mobile Phone The operation can accept calls from
mobile phones anonymously, however be aware that mobile
networks may not provide this service for free; consult
your provider about their policy on this. The number will
also appear in the ‘call register’ on your
phone and in your detailed account, which could reveal
to someone that you contacted Crimestoppers.
Text messages or photographs taken on your mobile phone
are not acceptable, again in case valuable information is
lost or your anonymity is compromised.
Remember Crimestoppers is
not an Emergency Service and if
you see a crime taking place, or if you are a victim, you
should Ring 999 to report it immediately.
